James Iha will not be performing on the U.S. leg of A Perfect Circle’s 2018 tour. Since Iha will be a part of the Smashing Pumpkinssummer tour, the musician will have to dedicate April and May to preparing for the run.

A Perfect Circle’s U.S. shows will begin April 14 in Tucson, Ariz., right in time for the release of Eat the Elephant on April 20. After Coachella, APC will break for a few weeks and continue performing live in May, hitting festivals like Northern Invasion and Rock on the Range. Failure’s Greg Edwards will reportedly replace Iha for the April and May gigs.

After we reached out to A Perfect Circle for confirmation of Iha's absence, the band's reps confirmed the story:

As you most likely have heard, James Iha's original band, the Smashing Pumpkins, have announced a Summer tour that James will be taking part in. Because James will be busy gearing up for that tour he won't be able to join us for our upcoming tour dates. James' temporary replacement will be none other than our longtime friend and one of our favorite guitar players, Greg Edwards (Failure/Autolux). We want to reiterate that this is a temporary situation and James remains a part of A Perfect Circle.

According to Guitar World, Iha's commitment to the Pumpkins will prevent him from touring with APC until June, but A Perfect Circle have confirmed to us Iha will not perform on their June/July European tour dates either.

“When APC will reconvene is never exactly defined,” guitarist Billy Howerdel tells Guitar World. “That’s frustrating, for sure, but maybe that contributes a little bit to the magic that can happen when we do get together—that feeling of not being predictable, not punching a clock. There’s an artistic value to it. But I’d still prefer to tour, make a record, take a little break, then tour and make another record.”
