Big news, rock fans, as AC/DC have finished recording their latest studio album! Unfortunately, due to guitarist Malcolm Young‘s current health issues, the legendary axeman was unable to contribute. Despite this, Stevie Young (Malcolm’s nephew) was recruited to fill the void, laying down guitar work that singer Brian Johnson labeled as “magnificent.”

AC/DC’s follow-up to 2008′s ‘Black Ice’ will be the newest release in the legendary band’s storied career, and will be the first album that AC/DC has ever released without Malcolm Young’s playing.

“It was brilliant over there,” Brian Johnson tells Team Rock of the Vancouver, Canada, recording sessions. “We’re done. I’m very excited and we’ve got some great songs.”

Johnson adds, “We miss Malcolm obviously. He’s a fighter. He’s in hospital but he’s a fighter. We’ve got our fingers crossed that he’ll get strong again. Stevie, Malcolm’s nephew, was magnificent, but when you’re recording with this thing hanging over you and your work mate isn’t well, it’s difficult. But I’m sure he was rooting for us. He’s such a strong man. He’s a small guy but he’s very strong. He’s proud and he’s very private so we can’t say too much. But fingers crossed he’ll be back.”

As for the album’s title, Johnson revealed a potential name that hits close to home. “I wanted to call the album Man Down,” the singer reveals. “But it’s a bit negative and it was probably just straight from the heart. I like that.”

In other AC/DC news, Brian Johnson was just awarded with an honorary doctorate by Northumbria University in Newcastle, England. He accepted the distinction alongside students of the school’s Engineering and Environment degree program:
