AC/DC ‘Getting Together’ To Work on New Album

AC/DC have remained relatively quiet over the past year or so, but it looks like that’s gonna change. Singer Brian Johnson says plans are in place for the band to start writing for a new album.

In a new interview with San Francisco’s 107.7 The Bone, Johnson laid out some preliminary plans the band has to start working on new music. “I’ll be getting together with [guitarist] Malcolm [Young] in a couple of weeks, and then we’re going to London to meet up with [guitarist] Angus [Young] hopefully. And that’s usually how we’ll start,” Johnson said.  “We’re just a bunch of pals from the projects, still. Even though we’ve done well, we still have the same rules that we stick by that we did when we had nothing, basically. And that’s the work ethic.”

As far as the creative juices flowing, Johnson explained, “It has to be right for the boys to do anything. When we’re sitting down and we’re talking about, ‘Can we do this? We’re not gonna be a pale shadow of our former selves?’ We’ll talk about it and make sure that we’ve all got it.”

And AC/DC isn’t a one-man effort, everyone in the band contributes and their livelihood depends on that. “We’re just five pieces of a card, and if one of us is not really able to perform at 100 percent, the whole thing would just collapse, I think,” Johnson said.

After a grueling two year touring cycle for their last disc, Johnson admits that any upcoming tour might pale in comparison, saying, “Well, I think it wouldn’t be like the last one. That was two years. I mean, that was just nuts. We were just fragged when we finished that one.” Although he does admit that it was a “good feeling” to look out into the audience nightly and see several generations of fans from around the world.

However, as previously mentioned by guitarist Malcolm Young, the new AC/DC won’t be out for “a year or two” so dig into your AC/DC collection and get reacquainted with the classics and perhaps some lost tracks while the wait is on.
