At long last, it's here! It's a little blurry, but it's here! FX's 'American Horror Story: Coven' has finally done away with its cryptic teasers and posters to offer up a proper trailer, with real footage and everything. We've got our first looks at Lily Rabe, Taissa Farmiga's role among the witches, and even a surprise for star Angela Bassett. Don't burn with the witches, fight back and check out the first trailer for 'American Horror Story: Coven'!

We're guessing FX hadn't yet intended to release the full breadth of 'American Horror Story: Coven' teasers this early in advance of the October 9 premiere, but the black cat's out of the bag now. The first 'Coven' trailer strongly continues the 'X-Men' vibe we've been feeling with Taissa Farmiga's character manifesting her witchy powers on a boy, and being sent to a special New Orleans school to develop her abilities and learn of the ongoing struggle.

Along with our first look at returning star Lily Rabe apparently being burned as a witch, we also get a glimpse of Angela Bassett's period character voodoo queen Marie Laveau that doesn't track with what we've seen thus far. All photos to date have seen the character with her hair bound in a head wrap, so might the more youthful look at the end signal the character's presence in modern day as well? And what of our glimpse of the first poster, highlighting Jessica Lange's Fiona as the others suffer on the walls?

From the official logline for the season:

Over 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Jessica Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.

So far, we know that the third season of Ryan Murphy’s breakout horror hit will move back and forth between both present and 1830s New Orleans in a battle between witches and voodoo, details of which have emerged for the first few episodes. ‘American Horror Story: Coven’ will also welcome newcomers Danny Huston, Christine Ebersole, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Patti LuPone, Leslie Jordan and Gabourey Sidibe, along with returning franchise regulars Denis O’Hare, Alexandra Breckinridge, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters.
