Legendary thrashers Anthrax have been busting out some mind-blowing surprises lately. On Wednesday night (March 27), Anthrax brought both  legendary guitarist Slash and iconic Public Enemy rapper Chuck D onstage on Los Angeles. Now comes news that last night in San Francisco, Anthrax were joined by Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett for an explosive live performance of AC/DC's 'T.N.T.'

Anthrax recently recorded a cover of 'T.N.T.' for their 'Anthems' EP, and we had the distinction of premiering the song exclusively on Loudwire. As we reported yesterday, legendary guitarist Slash joined Anthrax onstage to shred'T.N.T.' live with the thrashers, before teaming up with Chuck D for a rare performance of their collaboration 'Bring the Noise.' The very next night, Kirk Hammett manned the six-string as Anthrax's special guest for the live AC/DC cover.

In our recent interview with drummer Charlie Benante, he revealed how Anthrax chose to cover 'T.N.T.' for the 'Anthems' EP. "Back in the day, when we would do encores we would play AC/DC's 'Whole Lotta Rosie,'" begins Benante. "We never recorded it back then, but when we were in the studio making 'Worship Music,' we decided we wanted to. But [singer] Joey [Belladonna] really wanted to do 'T.N.T.' He felt it was more in his style, and he knew the song backwards and forwards, so we recorded that, and it's great. We recorded the track in Chicago and in Los Angeles [and] the sessions were really easy, felt really good. The thing about 'T.N.T.' for me is that there's not a lot of drumming on it. So the challenge for me was to not go crazy with fills, but to pay tribute to the original recording, and keep it AC/DC."

Anthrax are set to headline this year's Metal Alliance Tour, where they will perform their classic album 'Among the Living' in its entirety. Check out the footage of Anthrax performing 'T.N.T.' live with Metallica's Kirk Hammett below:
