Arctic Monkeys were recently in New York, where they did the usual promotional rounds, including a stop last week on 'Late Night With David Letterman,' where they performed their current No. 1 alt-rock hit 'Do I Wanna Know?'

That's all cool and stuff, but even cooler: The band also stopped at Avatar Studio when it was in New York and laid down a totally stripped, acoustic version of the song, which plays much deeper and darker under these circumstances. Like, way deeper and darker.

Or maybe it's just the moody look of the video, which they shot at the same time. Filmed in sharp black and white, the group -- particularly frontman Alex Turner, with his '50s shades and slicked-back hair -- looks severely haunting. You can check it out above.

Arctic Monkeys are still on the road working last year's 'AM' album, which has picked up considerable momentum over the past few weeks, thanks to 'Do I Wanna Know?''s massive radio play and the band's frequent showing in many year-end Top 10 lists.

And it doesn't look like their schedule will slow down anytime soon. Earlier this week, the band announced headlining gigs at both the Reading and Leeds music fests in the U.K. in August -- the first time they've played the shows since 2009. Is it too much to ask for an acoustic set?
