‘Arrow’ Star Stephen Amell Confirms Talks of a ‘Justice League’ Appearance [UPDATE]

The CW

With ‘Man of Steel 2’/’Batman vs. Superman’/’Justice League 1.0′ delayed until 2016, we have an additional 12 months to sort through the rumor mill and try to piece together what the heck is going on in this increasingly bizarre production. The latest tidbit should prove interesting to hardcore DC superhero fans and possibly a little baffling to the comic book laymen. It seems that the ‘Arrow‘ TV show may take place in the same universe as ‘Man of Steel’ since series star Stephen Amell says he’s discussed the future ‘Justice League’ movie with Warner Bros.

Like many Hollywood types, Amell is pretty good at saying a lot while saying nothing, but his recent statement to Fandango on the matter offers just enough to get some rumors churning. The short version: Amell has had “discussions” about playing the Green Arrow onscreen alongside Henry Cavill‘s Superman and Ben Affleck‘s Batman. The long version (in Amell’s own words):

All we have to do for something like that to happen, or even be a possibility, is continue to take care of business with our show and then we put ourselves in a position – but the important thing is our show. I have had discussions, but I think the gestation process for this project is a lot slower than most people think. I mean, they haven’t even shot the next one. They haven’t even shot a frame of the movie before the movie everyone thinks is the Justice League movie!

Amell isn’t sure what’s going on either, and these could’ve been earlier discussions that didn’t quite pan out. After all, ‘Arrow’ showrunners denied not too long ago the possibility of merging the TV property with that of ‘Justice League.’ It’s no secret that ‘Batman vs. Superman’ is a bit of a mess at the moment (which the delay should hopefully help remedy) and that’s something that Amell is very aware of. After all, you don’t become the star of a hit TV show without knowing a thing or two about the business. He’s just going to bide his time and hope that his show and character are still relevant by the time the actual ‘Justice League’ movie moves forward.

UPDATE: Stephen Amell took to his Facebook page to clearly debunk this report and his statements, which were seemingly taken out of context:
