Batman: Arkham Knight Trailer: The Dark Knight’s Return

This first trailer for Batman: Arkham Knight marks the beginning of the end of Batman’s ongoing one-man-war against crime, and it looks like he’ll be going out swinging.

Arkham Knight’s “Father to Son” trailer starts off with a juxtaposition featuring the deceased Thomas Wayne’s last will and testament while everything in Gotham goes to hell. Scarecrow has united Gotham’s criminal underworld and caused so much carnage that the city’s inhabitants are abandoning their homes while all of Arkham’s super villains are at war on the streets. While Thomas Wayne’s final wishes to his son are revealed, we see a more mature Bruce Wayne suiting up in his cave. Thomas Wayne’s will hints at the sad truth that Bruce Wayne has been both breaking and adhering to his father’s wishes all this time.

Thomas Wayne’s will reminds Bruce of the constitution needed to continue his ongoing pursuit of justice. We see Harley Quinn, Two-Face, The Penguin all winning their wars with the Gotham City Police Department when Batman arrives in the Batmobile, and boy, is it impressive. We have a feeling that the Batmobile’s in-game mechanics will feature some sort of AI or remote controlled aspect to the famous car that will assist Batman while he is fighting outside it.

“The team at Rocksteady Studios is putting a tremendous amount of work into delivering the final chapter of our Batman: Arkham trilogy so that fans can feel what it’s like to be the Batman,” said Sefton Hill, Game Director at Rocksteady Studios.  “We’re excited to be developing the game for next-gen platforms, which has allowed us to bring to life the design elements that we envisioned from the beginning such as the Batmobile and how it augments Batman’s abilities, to the fully detailed and realized Gotham City.”

This epic finale to Rocksteady Studios’ critically-acclaimed series will feature a fully-realized Gotham City and will be coming out on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 later this year. Pre-order incentives include a playable Harley Quinn and four additional challenge maps. Gamestop currently has Batman: Arkham Knight pegged for an Oct. 14, 2014 release date.
