Beck Recording New Album

Beck certainly hasn’t been resting on his laurels. He’s been working on a variety of new songs and projects, and he recently contributed to the an art installation at the Hirshhorn Museum, lent a song to the ‘Jeff Who Lives at Home’ soundtrack, recorded another with Jack White for White’s Third Man Records and even composed tunes for a video game soundtrack. But there’s been little in the way of news on the follow-up to his last full-length album, 2008′s ‘Modern Guilt.’ That is, until now.

During a recent interview with triple j radio, Beck said he’s finally resumed work on a new album, which he began recording several years ago with the same musicians that backed him on 1996’s ‘Odelay.’ “I started a record, largely recorded in 2008, so I’m trying to carve out some time from all the production work I’m doing to finish those songs before they become records from a lost era,” Beck explained. “It’s going on a half decade at this point.”

He also announced plans to issue the new material in “pretty much standard format,” which we assume means in CD, vinyl and digital, as opposed to his recent ‘The Beck Hansen Song Reader’ release, which featured 20 previously unheard songs published only in the form of sheet music. In other words, if you wanted to hear the songs featured in the ‘Song Reader,’ you pretty had to perform the music yourself.

There’s still no word when we can expect to finally hear Beck’s next long-player, but hopefully it won’t take another several years for it to finally drop.
