On Monday Jan. 21, Cameron University will hold a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. The day of service has now been expanded to include a supply drive to United Way agencies.

These agencies have provided a list of supplies that they need for the coming year.

Jennifer Holland, Vice President of Student Services is having participants not only honor Dr. King’s Dream, but to make an impact to the community as well.

“Cameron’s participation in the MLK Day of Service has been incredibly rewarding since we began in 2008,” she said. “Our goal with the supply drive is to expand the reach of our participation by providing an opportunity for additional members of the community to have a positive impact on the non-profit agencies who serve so many constituencies here in Lawton.”

Drop-off locations for the supply drive are as follows:

•           Country Mart, 4510 S.E. Lee Boulevard

•           Country Mart, 6734 N.W. Cache Road

•           Country Mart, 902 W. Gore Boulevard

•           Sam’s Club, 802 N.W. Sheridan Road

•           Staples, 1217 N.W. Sheridan Road

•           Wal-Mart, 6301 Quanah Parker Trailway

These locations will have Cameron volunteers to assist in the supply drive.

The wish lists can be viewed online at www.cameron.edu/mlkcelebration/dayofservice.

Those wanting to make donations may either shop at the drop-off locations to provide the items on the lists or bring the items from home to the drop-off site.

According to Janet Williams, Director of Media Relations for Cameron University, there are approximately 400 volunteers for this day of service event. These volunteers will perform services at community parks, local service agencies and schools.

Cameron Volunteers will perform these services from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the supply drive will go on from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Williams also states that the Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet, which is usually scheduled on the same day, has been rescheduled to Monday Feb 18.
