Teenage Member of the LulzSec Hacking Group Arrested in London

A leading member of the LulzSec hacking group, famous for high-profile invasions of the computer databases of companies such as Citibank, has been arrested in the UK.

The 16-year-old boy, who goes by the name Tflow online, was taken into custody by the London Metropolitan Police’s E-Crime Unit.

Freaky iPhone Video Captures Weirdest Guitar String Movements Ever

This clip, recorded from the inside of an acoustic guitar captures the instrument’s strings wildly oscillating in a way that’s different from what you would see if you were watching the videographer strum his six-string live — instead of a subtle vibrating, the strings move in exaggerated waves, like lines on a heart monitor.

The oscillation is not an enhancement added in post-production. It’s a result of the iPhone’s “Rolling Shutter” effect, which films by scanning the frame as opposed to taking a series of snapshots.

Business School Offering $74,000 Scholarship for Best Tweet

Twitter skills are going to score one student a full ride to The University of Iowa’s Henry B. Tippie School of Management.

To win the $37,200-a-year scholarship, applicants have to answer one of their essay questions within Twitter’s 140 character limit. The Trippie School’s website does encourage that links to other social media “such as blogs, video, Facebook, or a web page” be included in the Tweet, to show the applicants’ creativity.

ISPs Sign New Initiative to Rein In Suspected Piracy

In what’s being heralded as a win for film and music studios, the country’s top internet service providers — Comcast, AT&T, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision and Verizon — have all signed on to a new initiative called the Copyright Alert System to combat internet piracy.

The new process will identify users suspected of digital copyright infringement, such as heavy downloaders, and then send out a series of six warnings, each promising “progressively harsher consequences if the initial cautions ignored.”

Paypal’s President Predicts the Demise of the Wallet

Now that Paypal has reached 100 million active accounts, a company executive predicts physical wallets will soon be mothballed.

“We believe that by 2015 digital currency will be accepted everywhere in the US -– from your local corner store to Walmart. We will no longer need to carry a wallet,” Paypal President Scott Thompson said in a blog post.
