Canada's reigning power couple gave their country an unforgettable present for its 146th birthday: a new king and queen!

Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger and pop starlet Avril Lavigne officially became man and wife on Monday (July 1), aka Canada Day, Us Weekly confirms. Following a crazy few days of are-they-married or aren't-they-married rumors sparked in part by guests' tweets, the Nickelback frontman wed the pop singer before some 50 friends and relatives at a chateau in the south of France. The ensuing celebration, which included a late-night fireworks show over the Mediterranean, raged until 6 the next morning.

"It was a wild, all-night party with drinking, dancing, incredible food and lots of laughter and tears of happiness," a source reveals.

While it doesn't appear that Steel Panther played the wedding, as previously threatened, we do hope Kroeger's hopes were met for "the most unique wedding that the planet has probably ever seen.”

Their engagement last August after a quiet six months of dating stunned unsuspecting family members and blew minds across musical genres. The Internet responded as one would expect. It is the first marriage for Kroeger, 38, and the second for the 28-year-old Lavigne, who filed for divorce from Sum 41's Deryck Whibley in 2009.

While we don't know what happened behind closed doors between Kroeger and Lavigne after the ceremony, we do hope they played some of the songs from our wedding night playlist. Check it out below:
