Got the Christmas shopping woes? No need to worry, Fort Sill’s Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation will host the Christ Kindl Market December 7th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and December 8th from noon to 5 p.m. at the Rinehart Fitness Center gym. More than 100 booths with crafters and vendors will offer items such as Christmas decorations, candles, wicker baskets, ornaments, woodworking, specialty foods and seasonings as Christmas gift ideas for the two-day event.

“At this year’s event there will be new vendors offering a greater selection of wonderful and unique gift ideas to include traditional palate-pleasing German cuisine for our shoppers,” said Traci Barsuglia, Christ Kindl Markt event coordinator.

Food and beverage will be available at the event including schnitzel sandwiches, bratwurst, sauerkraut and brotchen, soft pretzels, Gluwein, German Bier, roasted nuts, coffee and hot chocolate. Concessions are provided by Das Bratwurst Haus, Rose & Billy Barney outside foods, the Impact Zone and an AAFES food truck.

Items sold at the Christ Kindl Markt include everything from Native American and Western art, pictures and prints, wooden handcrafted items, home décor, clocks, and vintage Christmas items to cosmetics, lotions, bags, accessories, jewelry, coins, quilts pillows, puppets, toys and comics. Food booths will offer honey, pollen, bee’s wax, chili frito pies and chili dogs, candy apples, imported German chocolate, jams and jellies, baked goods, candies, Pampered Chef, samples of health shakes, lavender cookies, cakes and tea.

“The event is similar to the Christmas open air markets offered in Germany where vendors set up in the town square and sell a variety of unique items for Christmas including decorations, crafts, candies and toys. There is always lots of good German food, beverages and holiday music – bringing in the Christmas holiday season,” said Barsuglia.

“Traditionally the Christ Kindl Markt is held outdoors but the Oklahoma weather does not always cooperate so instead of holding with tradition, we moved it indoors to the Rinehart Fitness Center gym,” she said.

The event is open to the public but shoppers should plan on showing a picture ID at post gates. There is no entry fee to shop.

“Get the whole family together and shop a variety of booths and enjoy German food,” said Barsuglia. “It’s a great opportunity for Christmas shoppers to find lots of unique and interesting gift ideas for family and friends”.
