Corey Taylor is out promoting his new book, America 51, and hit a sold-out Irving Plaza in New York City last night (Aug. 9) for a Q&A with fans followed by an acoustic performance of originals and covers.

The Slipknot / Stone Sour frontman touched on a variety of topics during the Q&A session, including his son Griffin's recent performance with Stone Sour and his recent feud with Chad Kroeger, exclaiming, "He started it."

Things got serious when a fan asked about the recent deaths of Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell. Taylor spoke about being good friends with Chester, and recalled how sweet the Linkin Park singer was as a person. He also declared that he doesn't want see this happen to any more of his music peers, urging people to seek help and know that they're not alone.

The mood got lighter again when Corey started talking about how his favorite cereals no longer taste the same as they did when he was a kid, garnering a roomful of laughter that a would make a stand-up comedian jealous.

After a short break, Taylor came out for his acoustic set, as he initially took the stage alone, playing tunes like his Stone Sour hit "Bother" and the Nine Inch Nails song "Something I Can Never Have." He was then joined by Stone Sour's Christian Martucci on guitar and eventually Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga on cajón, running through classics by Creedence Clearwater Revival, R.E.M. and others, while also playing the Stone Sour song "St. Marie" live for the first time, along with current hit "Song #3" and fan favorite "Through Glass."

Then it was time for Ruptured Nuptials, the name that Corey has dubbed his "wedding band," which featured the three Stone Sour musicians joined by special guest Frank Bello of Anthrax. The foursome delivered songs by the Eagles, Hall & Oates, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones and more, getting wild cheers from the audience along the way.

Over the past several years, Corey Taylor has become an unofficial spokesperson for the hard rock and metal community, and there's good reason for it. He's an engaging personality who's passionate about his music and important social issues -- and his multiple talents were on great display last night at Irving Plaza.
