Crash Test – Classic 1959 Chevy Bel Air Vs. 2009 Chevy Malibu [VIDEO]

A video has surfaced of a 2009 50th anniversary IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) crash test that shows a 1959 Chevy Bel Air and a 2009 Chevy Malibu going head to head. Now I'll have to say I've been guilty of saying "they just don't build them like they use to" on more than one occasion. I've always thought that older vehicles were stronger and safer, what with all the real steel and metal compared to all the plastic and composites used on today's cars. As it turns out it's quite the opposite!

After seeing this video, I'm not so convinced. I really thought the classic would have held up better. Both cars were absolutely destroyed, that's the saddest part. I was amazed at how the older vehicle just folded up and ripped apart. The newer vehicle was destroyed too but the damage wasn't near as violent. Go ahead and take a look for yourself.
