The day is upon us! After a very long and somewhat painful wait, cult progressive metal band Cynic just released a new song. 'The Lion's Roar' has been revealed as the first piece of Cynic's full-length album, 'Kindly Bent to Free Us,' which will see a release on Valentine's Day 2014.

Cynic completely changed the face of progressive metal with the release of 'Focus' in 1993. Far ahead of its time, 'Focus' became one of the greatest debut metal albums of all time, mixing technical death metal with jazz fusion. The band's high wire balance that was 'Focus' received a unanimously positive reception, and 20 years later, is still seen as a crown jewel of progressive music.

Having gone into hiatus for well over a decade, it took 15 years for Cynic to release their sophomore effort, 'Traced in Air,' which also received incredibly positive feedback. Luckily, we won't have to wait until 2023 to hear 'Kindly Bent to Free Us.'

"It's a bold new sound for Cynic and marks a gigantic leap in the band's progression," drummer Sean Reinert tells Guitar World about 'Kindly Bent to Free Us.' "We've had a lot of time to let this material develop and gestate, and it finally feels ready to be unleashed on the world. I've been in trio mode with Malone and Masvidal flushing out a zillion and one details, and I couldn't be happier about what's happening with these songs. They are truly alive."

Stop what you're doing and check out Cynic's brand new song 'The Lion's Roar' above! And make sure to stay excited for 'Kindly Bent to Free Us,' which will drop on Feb. 14.
