DevilDriver’s Dez Fafara Cites Groping of Female Crowdsurfers as ‘Tantamount to Rape’
While speaking with Australia’s Rockersphere, the subject turned to Staind frontman Aaron Lewis‘ recent rant against audience members at Kansas City festival who got a little too handsy with a teenage girl. At the time, Lewis stopped the song to berate those responsible for what he was seeing. “Listen up, you f—ing a–holes,” stated Lewis. “That girl over right there is like 15 f—ing years old and you pieces of s–t are molesting her while she’s on the f—ing crowd. Your f—ing mothers should be ashamed of themselves, you pieces of s–t.” The rant continued with Lewis getting further incensed by the situation.
Fafara says he’s in agreement with Lewis’ stance. He explained that while he was unaware of the incident at the time of the interview, he has seen enough physicality in the pit and while crowdsurfing to have an opinion on it. “Of course, it’s wrong. It’s completely wrong,” stated Fafara. “If I see it, I’ll stop a show for sure. Gentlemen should be just that — gentlemen. That’s why we’re in there and that’s why metal people are in there — to have a good time, not to be groping people. That’s tantamount to rape.”
Fafara reiterated that if he ever spotted someone doing that, he would stop a show, adding, “I don’t put up with any of that kind of s–t.” You can hear the singer’s comments as part of Rockersphere’s interview at around the 4:15 mark in the audio player below.
