In the midst of Foo Fighters' Saturday night concert in Los Angeles, Dave Grohl marveled at the evening's talent fearing they had already played the biggest show of 2015 with it only being a week into the New Year. One thing is certain -- Foo Fighters set the bar high with Dave Grohl's birthday bash at The Forum.

Though nothing more was known other than the fact that Foo Fighters were booking a special last-minute gig at the Forum to give Grohl an early birthday present (his birthday is Jan. 14), it became pretty clear early on that this would be an evening not only full of Foo Fighters favorites, but a who's who of rock turning out to pay homage and get in on the fun. KISS' Paul Stanley kicked off the night, joining Foo Fighters for an electric opening performance of 'Detroit Rock City' and 'Do You Love Me' much to the delight of Grohl and those in attendance.

Next up on the guest list was Tenacious D duo Jack Black and Kyle Gass, stars of the 'Learn to Fly' video, along with the one and only Slash. Black led the audience in a 'Happy Birthday' to Grohl before hundreds of balloons engulfed the stage below and all through the two song appearance by the trio of guests they were kicking balloons out of the way. A spirited cover of Queen's 'Tie Your Mother Down' came first, with Black then taking lead vocals for Led Zeppelin's 'Immigrant Song' (seen above). Owning the appearance, Black was so amped up he lifted his shirt to show his belly as he walked the catwalk and tossed the shirt aside before exiting.

With the Foos grinning throughout, they later clearly enjoyed a two-song stint with Alice Cooper on 'School's Out' and 'I'm Eighteen.' Also on the guest list, Grohl's onetime Queens of the Stone Age cohort Nick Oliveri was invited up to sing a song that both he and Grohl love -- Roky Erickson's 'Two Headed Dog.' And Grohl asked a guy who shares his birthday -- Black Label Society's Zakk Wylde -- to come up and rock out Black Sabbath's 'N.I.B.' and 'Fairies Wear Boots.' For the performance, Grohl slid over to bass, a rarity for him, with Wylde and drummer Taylor Hawkins playing the songs as a power trio.

The parade of guests didn't stop there. Live wire energetic wonder Perry Farrell led Foo Fighters through a rousing rendition of Jane's Addiction's 'Mountain Song' and a swagger-filled cover of Rolling Stones' 'Miss You,' though Farrell did miss a little bit of the lyrics. Farrell also amused Foo Fighters with his full-on sprint up and down the catwalk, with Grohl remarking how fit the singer was.

In the midst of 'This Is a Call,' Foo Fighters welcomed Trombone Shorty to the stage for a chaotic jam session in which Shorty got into a call-and-response battle with Grohl's guitar and ended his appearance with a seemingly never-ending note that got some of the biggest cheers of the night. Grohl even remarked he wasn't sure how he could follow that up.

The frontman told the crowd that most of the guests were people he knew that he just started calling up, but then he called someone he didn't know and marked another collaboration off his bucket list. With that said, David Lee Roth came to the stage and ever the showman, he commanded the attention of the Van Halen-loving Foos as they rocked out 'Panama' and 'Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love.' For the night's final guest, Grohl invited Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister to the stage and had Zakk Wylde and Slash return for a blistering finale of Chuck Berry's 'Let It Rock.'

Amidst all the guests, there were other Foo Fighters highlights including an extended jam on 'Monkey Wrench,' a spine-chilling sing-along on 'My Hero,' Taylor Hawkins taking lead vocals on 'Cold Day in the Sun' and the audience backing on 'Best of You.'

As Grohl remarked at one point, he had a birthday bash at theme restaurant Medieval Times a few years back and thought that was pretty cool, but this may have been one of the best nights of his life. Your move, rock scene -- the bar has been set.
