After taking some time off from the road following the promotion of their last album 'Wasting Light' to work on other projects as well as their next album, Foo Fighters will make their return to the live stage for their first full-fledged shows of 2013 in December.

The band just announced a pair of dates that will take place in Mexico City next month. The group will perform on Dec. 11 and 13 at the Foro Sol in Mexico City, with special guests The National set to open the shows. Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.

In late 2012, Dave Grohl revealed that the band was playing its last show for quite some time, alluding to the band taking a break. However, Grohl began 2013 promoting his 'Sound City' documentary and his Foo Fighters cohorts served as the backing band for the special guests he recruited for a tour to promote the film. While on the promotional trail, Grohl also revealed that ideas for new Foo Fighters music had already begun to take shape.

In August, guitarist Chris Shiflett told Rolling Stone that the band had already started rehearsing new material for their next album and that he thought the band would begin recording the disc in early 2014.

At present, no other dates have been announced for Foo Fighters, but if Shiflett's timeline is correct, the Mexico City shows could be viewed as a test run for the group before they enter the studio.
