While Stone Sour is currently in the studio working on their new covers album, former guitarist Jim Root has some choice words for the band. The current Slipknot guitarist said “at least one guy in the band” is only “concerned about money” and that he has “no desire to associate with people like that anymore.”

In an interview with Guitar World, Root ripped the band saying, “Some of the guys in Stone Sour, I think they just want to be a radio band and write strictly for radio and try to be more of a poppy rock band. And that's not really what I'm into.” The guitarist added, “There's at least one guy in the band that's only concerned about money. I really have no desire to associate with people like that anymore."

As we previously reported, Root was ousted from Stone Sour back in May. Initially Root said it was not his decision and he was “not happy about it.” But later he admitted that he was “not really happy” in the band and said leaving the band was “for the better.”

While Root is out of Stone Sour, the guitarist is currently still in Slipknot with Corey Taylor, who sings for both bands. Taylor recently discussed the tense studio sessions for Slipknot’s new album following Root’s dismissal from Stone Sour. “It was difficult, at first. It put a strain between he and I for a little bit. It was one of those things where the timing just sucked.” Taylor added, “At the same time, we had this amazing project that we were working on [with Slipknot], so we were able to kind of channel that and put it into what we were making, which I think in a lot of ways helped the overall aggression and emotion really get there.”

Slipknot will release their new album ‘.5: The Gray Chapter' on Oct. 21. The album is available for pre-order at Amazon and iTunes. The band will perform at Knotfest in San Bernardino, Calif. on Oct. 25 and 26. Check out all their tour dates here.

Meanwhile, Stone Sour are currently working on their new covers album, which is expected to drop next year.
