Ft. Sill Indian School to Hold Annual Reunion

This Friday, October 14th and Saturday October 15th, its time for the annual Fort Sill Indian School Reunion and Comanche Nation College, 1608 SW 9th Street. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday night and then again from 10 a.m to 11 p.m. on Saturday.

Participants are invited to bring yearbooks or other nostalgic items for any Fort Sill era that they would like to share. Veteran's photos or other items such as clippings or medals will be used for the reunion's honor displays.

Food and refreshments will be served Friday night, followed by the introduction of classes, students, teachers and special visitors, Attendees are also invited to bring items for the silent auction, baked good for the cake walk on Saturday, or prepared food for the Saturday meal.

The now defunct school in Lawton began as an elementary school for local Native American children in 1900 and later became a boarding school for Indian high school students from around the nation. Beginning in the 1940s, the curriculum changed to focus on homemaking and vo-tech skills. The school closed in 1988.
