FX’s ‘Tyrant': ‘Harry Potter’ Director David Yates Steps in for Ang Lee
Though yet to film FX's upcoming terrorism pilot 'Tyrant' had already attained a significant amount of buzz even prior to hiring 'Life of Pi' director Ang Lee to helm the pilot. Lee ultimately dropped out citing exhaustion, but now 'Harry Potter' franchise director David Yates has stepped in to guide the hotly-anticipated series by directing its pilot episode.
Developed by ‘Homeland’ producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff (along with ‘LOST’ writer Craig Wright), 'Tyrant' centers on a family that gets drawn into Middle Eastern politics when an Arab state dictator dies and leaves his American son as the new head of the country.
Ang Lee originally dropped out of directing the pilot episode over exhaustion from his 5 year ordeal making Oscar-winner ‘Life of Pi,’ as well as several scheduling conflicts that would have prevented his involvement. ‘Tyrant’ would also have marked Lee’s first TV directing gig, for which locations had already been scouted.
Lee called the pilot "one of the most brilliant ideas for a series that I’ve seen and one about which I was very excited," but ultimately exited regardless. No castings have yet been announced for the drama.
Yates should prove a suitable replacement, but what say you? Which of FX's new shows are you most interested to get a look at?
