As we are well aware, there are currently two version of Queensryche performing and releasing studio albums. This can be confusing for fans who may not keep up with music news and are more casual fans than devoted followers. Estranged singer Geoff Tate, who was fired from Queensryche by three of the founding members, recently sat down with Smashing Interviews Magazine to talk about his side of Queensryche.

One of the juiciest questions a journalist can ask Geoff Tate is if he has heard the Todd La Torre fronted version of the band and their new self-titled album. When asked, Tate responded stating, “Oh, I’m not interested at all. I haven’t listened to it and won’t listen to it. I really ripped off the rear view mirror, and I’m speeding down the road. I’m not interested in what they’re doing. I spent thirty years with those guys. I know what they’re doing (laughs).”

The interview moves on to ask questions about Tate’s Queensryche and their album ‘Frequency Unknown.’ A lot of fans have surmised that the ‘FU’ rings on the knuckles of the fist that adorns the album cover stands for something explicit and is taking a shot against his former bandmates.

Smashing Interviews Magazine asked, “Now, are the initials on the ring on the album cover just simply identifying the name of the record?” Tate responded, “Apparently, it’s something that riles people (laughs). I never thought of it that way. I thought it looked kind of metal, the fist coming through the glass. My fans typically wear a lot of rings. It’s just an abbreviation of the album title.”

Geoff also discusses the ongoing legal battle over the right to use the Queensryche name, which was supposed to reconvene in court in November, but was pushed back until January of 2014. The frontman talks about how it is a corporate breakup and just standard procedure, to which there’s wild speculation over on the Internet when it is really a black and white issue. We will all have the answer soon enough.

Geoff Tate’s Queensryche shifted 5,500 copies of ‘Frequency Unknown’ in its first week, landing at No. 82 on the Billboard 200 chart. The Todd La Torre fronted version of the band sold 13,500 copies of ‘Queensryche’ in its first week, which saw the album come in at No. 23 on the Billboard 200. Both bands have been touring in support of their respective new albums while we all await the verdict, which will allow one of the outfits to continue on as Queensryche.
