Sure, you can see plenty of bison out in the refuge... but that doesn't mean you should try hand feeding them.

YouTuber Caroline Evans was cruising through Olympic Game Farm in Washington when one of these behemoths decided he wanted in on the action. Just the fact that it was totally comfortable sticking its head in the car should be a red flag. People are feeding these guys.

Rule #1 with any wild animal, whether in captivity or not, do not feed them. It's basically the only rule with wild animals.

Once you start providing food to any beast, they'll become conditioned to associate humans with food. That's not good. With enough exposure, they can become trapped in a strange place of mind between wild and domesticated. As those tiger dudes in Vegas taught us, wild animals are wild. Their natural instincts can kick in at any moment, and all of a sudden you're at the mercy of nature.

Beyond that, I'm pretty certain there's a hefty fine and some possible jail time that goes along with trying to feed an animal in the refuge... you just don't know about it until authorities go busting down your door with a no-knock warrant because you were being a bad citizen.

Keep the food to yourself. Keep calm, carry on.
