The new album makes the sixth studio release in the band's fourteen year career and has to be one of the more produced efforts to date. Even with a clean sound and high production value it still manages to keep that classic High On Fire sound. A sound most would describe as sludge, doom or 'stoner' metal.

Whatever you want to call it these guys helped pioneer it and develop a genre that remains as popular and relevant than ever before. Almost all modern metal bands that are apart of the fused sludge, doom metal scene credit High On Fire as an influence.

I wouldn't necessarily call 'De Vermis Mysteriis' a full blown concept album, but it certainly was constructed with a theme. The album's title is loosely translated into 'The Mysteries of the Worm' and is somewhat based on concepts as well as stories by Robert Bloch, H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard. It's an odd and unlikely collection of influences but 'De Vermis Mysteriis' is a dynamic album that's worth listening to.
