If 'Ray Donovan' could do it, and 'Dexter' lasted a blistering 8 seasons, this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Showtime has offered a fourth season renewal for its oft-debated Emmy darling 'Homeland,' as well as a 'Masters of Sex' season 2 for its best received new drama.

Details are forthcoming on the exact schedule, but Showtime confirms that both series will return for another round of 12 episodes in 2014. 'Homeland' continues to garner strong ratings for the pay-cable network, most recently earning another Emmy for Claire Danes in the role of bipolar CIA analyst Carrie Mathison, while the Michael Sheen- and Lizzy Caplan-starring 'Masters of Sex' has earned rave reviews across the board in its inaugural four episodes.

Says Showtime boss David Nevins of the news:

HOMELAND continues to prove its strength for SHOWTIME, and is one of television’s most exciting, provocative and widely-discussed shows. It has grown its audience significantly in each of its three seasons. The critical and audience reaction to MASTERS OF SEX since its great launch has been incredibly gratifying. It’s a privilege to get to work with such talented and creative people as Alex Gansa and Michelle Ashford, as well as their tremendous casts. They have each created truly original shows, with distinctive voices that are among the most admired series on television.

For those unfamiliar with the newer series, ‘Masters of Sex’ follows two famous, real-life human sexuality research pioneers of the 1960s, William Masters and Virginia Johnson, chronicling the duo’s unconventional lives moving from a St. Louis teaching hospital to Johnny Carson and the cover of Time Magazine. The series is adapted from Thomas Maier’s book, ‘Masters of Sex: The Life and Times of William Masters and Virginia Johnson, The Couple Who Taught America How To Love.’

Well, what say you? 'Homeland' criticism aside, are you happy to see the counter-terrorism drama return for season 4? What about a second season of 'Masters of Sex'?
