This past weekend brought the 'How I Met Your Mother' final season news that 'The View' host Sherri Shepherd would appear in season 9 premiere "The Locket," apparently filling the role of a woman Marshall meets on his flight to New York. Now, CBS has confirmed Shepherd's involvement over a multi-episode arc, and released the first new photo of the final season!

Though the original casting report identified the role as "Camille," producers have confirmed that the occasional '30 Rock' star will be playing appearing in several episodes as Daphne, a woman traveling to New York on the same flight as Marshall. As shown from the final season's first official photo above, the pair don't get along very well and their arguing gets both kicked off the plane, leaving Marshall in need of another route to the Farhampton wedding.

"We're all extremely excited to have Sherri Shepherd joining HIMYM for an arc in Season 9!” said co-creator and executive producer Craig Thomas in the press release. “She is hilarious and delightful and perfect for this part – we couldn't be more thrilled!” Shepherd joins fellow guest star Wayne Brady, due to reprise his role as Barney’s half-brother James Stinson for a modest chunk of the long-running CBS comedy’s final season.

So far CBS and executive producers Thomas and Carter Bays have played ‘HIMYM’s’ final year close to the chest, though we know that season 9 will take place largely across the 56-hour period leading up to Barney and Robin’s wedding, at which Ted finally meets his bride-to-be. The network also revealed that all four regulars would meet the mother (herself a newly-minted regular) prior to Ted, while individual episodes may cut back and forth through time as necessary to tell the complete story.

We’ll learn more about the final season (and maybe even see some footage) from the ‘HIMYM’ gang’s first and only appearance at Comic-Con 2013, but what say you? Are you intrigued to see 'How I Met Your Mother' spend its final season in one weekend?
