Iggy Pop Covers the Black Keys’ ‘Lonely Boy’

The Black Keys have accomplished a lot in their decade as a band. From sold out arena tours to getting their own documentary to performing live with Johnny Depp, the Akron, Ohio duo have done well for themselves. Now they can add one more impressive stat to their resume: getting covered by Iggy Pop.

The Black Keys are getting their own tribute album next month, which is rare for a band who hasn’t been around longer than 11 years. ‘Black on Blues: A Tribute to the Black Keys’ will be released on July 17 via Cleopatra Records. It mostly features blues veterans covering a number of Black Keys songs. Iggy Pop teams up with Cream/Blind Faith drummer Ginger Baker to give their own faithful interpretation of the Keys’ 2011 hit ‘Lonely Boy,’ which you can listen to below.

Their version of ‘Lonely Boy’ sounds a little more stripped down, but that’s about it. The only other radical departure is hearing the Stooges frontman sing the song instead of the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach. As Consequence of Sound reports, other covers include those by Devon Allman, Dave Davies, Papa Mali, Tab Benoit, Cyril Neville and more.
