Incite’s Richie Cavalera + All Hail The Yeti’s Connor Garritty Play ‘Would You Rather?’

Both Incite and All Hail the Yeti have a busy 2016 ahead of them as each band has released a new album this year. Incite unleashed Oppression while All Hail the Yeti's new release is titled Screams From A Black Wilderness. Both frontmen are much more fun than the titles of their latest records and they were up for a game of 'Would You Rather?' Check out our very funny chat with Richie Cavalera of Incite and All Hail the Yeti's Connor Garritty below:

Would you rather be really late for a show or mess up onstage? 

Connor Garritty: I would rather f--- up onstage. When you’re late for a show, you’re not only screwing up your set, you’re screwing up all of the other band’s sets, you’re screwing with the promoter, with the venue, with the security -- s--t rolls down hill. For me I would rather screw up onstage because most of the time, it’s only me that notices.

Richie Cavalera: I would have to agree with him, messing up onstage is the one you can get away with and play off. Being late, you’re going to have a terrible reputation, like Axl Rose, that’s one thing you don’t want in this business is a bad reputation.

CG: But being late happens, too, when you’re touring at our level, in a van, s--t breaks. On bigger tours, these bigger bands get on their bus and go to sleep and their driver drives through the night. We’re driving and switching, if you’re all tired you have to stop and sleep. Sometimes you get there late or there’s traffic, sometimes it’s out of your hands.

RC: It’s a s--ty feel being late though, you’re scrambling. It’s late, we have to do merch, they’re doing gear, it’s madness.

Would you rather be in the studio or on tour?

RC: On tour for sure. This time around, it was the best studio experience so maybe that would change but there’s nothing like a live show, that’s why we do this. It’s that drug we feel, nothing comes close to that.

CG: I am in full agreement with Richie on that one. I like the idea of being in the studio because that means you’re creating a record and it means you have something to look forward to putting out but I really despise tracking vocals in the studio. It’s really trying on your voice, on your head, your body, physically. For us as vocalists for these type of bands, you can change a new snare head or strings when something bad happens, it’s your voice so you’re f---ed for a good few days. But yeah touring for sure, there’s nothing like it. You get in the van with your buddies and you show up and see the other bands each night you get excited to see the guys and the crowd.

Would you rather tour with a band you didn’t respect or tour with a band that didn’t respect you?

RC: Probably a band I didn’t respect, then I don’t have to watch them I can just go to the van or hang at the merch booth with fans. If they don’t respect me then the tours will get a little harder and they’re going to be a lot more dickier to us, give us a s--ty time slot, give us a s--tty merch spot, it can really unravel what’s going on and that would be worse. I can stay away from them if I don’t like them.

CG: I think it depends what slot the band you’re talking about it on. If they’re lower than us on the slot then I don’t give a s--t. If they don’t respect me, tough s--t, but yeah like Richie said you’re always striving to earn the respect of your peers. It’s important in this business to do that because people remember that. If I don’t respect a band for some sort of reason, that’s a personal thing for me I can get over it and move on. We’re pretty spot on agreeing on everything.

Would you rather have a massive bank account or a massive fanbase? 

RC: I think the massive fanbase because I think if that came then I would have the bank account. I never got into music for money, I’d like to have the fanbase and play for a sold-out stadium.

CG: I’d say the massive fanbase for sure. Obviously, money is important, it’s the fuel that feeds us. We need it to do what we do but we don’t do it for the money. Anyone that’s in a metal band and does it for the money has got a rude awakening. The bands who are making a good living have been doing it for a long time and they didn’t do it for the money then either. Hard work and determination, that’s basically what it takes then the money, will come. With the fans if you treat them right, they’ll treat you right.

Would you rather have an accordion for legs or drumsticks for hands?

CG: Drumsticks for hands, for sure. Wait, let me rephrase that, would it be just one accordion leg? The little accordions? Then there’s the big one too right?

RC: I would go accordion for legs for sure.

CG: You could still bounce around town.

RC: Yeah, exactly. If I had sticks for hands, I’d be screwed so I’m going accordion for legs. Accordions are beautiful and there’s not enough of them and adding that into my live metal show would be fun too!

CG: I’m going to change it up and disagree with this guy. I’m going to go with drumsticks for hands because people love drummers. [Laughs] They just do. The singer wants to be the drummer, the drummer wants to be the guitar player, the guitar player wants to be the singer and no one wants to be the bass player. I could also bug people all the time and tap on s--t.

Would you rather have lunch with a music icon who has passed away or a music icon who is currently alive? Who would it be?

RC: I would say dead and I’d like to talk to John Lennon. Bob Marley is a close second but I think Lennon spoke truth about the world and had a vision of what music could do for the world. I think if he was still around the voice of music would be a lot different and a lot more positive.

CG: I’d say dead as well, I’d like to talk to Frank Sinatra or maybe just hang out with him in Vegas for two nights. Then he could be like, “This guy’s with me, don’t question him” and then I could just do everything Frank did for a night.
