Jack White Sets Out to Break New Guinness World Record

Rock feuds are fun, but did you ever think you’d see the day that one of the sides was the ‘Guinness Book of World Records’? Following a back-and-forth earlier in the week, Jack White says he’s ready to fight for a spot in the book after being denied for one of his other “records.”

The beef started when White called the Guinness founders “an elitist organization” after they turned away the White Stripes‘ one-note concert in Canada back in 2007. Guinness responded with their own statement, saying that the band had been included, but the category was eventually eliminated because many acts tried to replicate the one-note show for their own “notoriety.” They suggested that White attempt another record to reclaim his spot in the book.

Well, challenge accepted! In a new statement issued by White and his Third Man label, he’s vowed to break the world record for most metaphors in a single concert, and will continue his attempts through the remaining shows on his tour. He writes, “This attempt may prove very exhausting and at times even dangerous, but the results could prove to be glorious and possibly even vainglorious. White and Third Man Records are certain that the extremely scientific and intricate analysis of the metaphors that occur will be examined in accordance with Guinness’ usually very thorough methods probably, or the very least if somebody answers the phone at the pub.”

The label encourages White’s fans to not interfere or interject with any metaphors that they witness during the show so as not to disqualify or trivialize the accomplishment in question. They add, “All concert attendees are encouraged to entice as many metaphors to occur during the show that they possibly can as long as they don’t endanger themselves or Mr. White.”

Third Man Records also states in their release that White’s current album, ‘Blunderbuss,’ is also in the running for the “fastest named album in history.”
