John McEnroe is one of the legends of tennis, but over the weekend he was interested in another kind of racket -- the kind you can deliver onstage as part of a rock band. As can be seen in the fan-shot video above, McEnroe is rocking out a cover of Nirvana's high energy favorite "Territorial Pissings."

The choice of song should generate a smile from McEnroe fans given his often confrontational style of play on the tennis court. During his time as one of the top players in the world, Johnny Mac had more than a few "pissings" with chair umpires.

Those who've followed McEnroe over the years are probably not surprised by his hopping up onstage to play, He's performed alongside New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist onstage before and just this past year he appeared in a video for Tim Commerford's band Future User.

As for the performance above, it took place at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, N.Y. on Saturday (Aug. 22) where McEnroe's wife, Patty Smyth, was the main attraction. According to PageSix.com, Smyth performed her Scandal hits "The Warrior" and "Goodbye to You," then invited McEnroe and the couple's daughter Ava to the stage for a family affair finale. McEnroe took lead and played guitar on the Nirvana classic, while Smyth and Ava sang backup.
