So, how about that new Tool album? Bassist Justin Chancellor has offered a slight update on the band’s first effort since 2006, promising the end result is “going to be awesome.”

Much like Chancellor’s bandmate Maynard James Keenan, the bassist doesn’t want to chat about the upcoming release while being interviewed. During a recent chat with Top Guitar, Chancellor shut down an interviewer with, “Don’t ask that question,” before conceding slightly and offering a new sentence. “Just trust me that it’s going to be awesome,” Chancellor said. “It’s going to happen. It’s in the oven. It’s cooking, it’s cooking.”

During the discussion, Justin spoke about another musical project, M.T. Void, featuring Sweet Noise’s Peter Mohamed. The bassist confirmed there is an unreleased song in the act’s vault and spoke of a desire to once again work with Peter. “When we did that project, Peter was in America for one year or whatever, so we took the opportunity to work together. Since then, he’s been back in Poland and I wasn’t very proficient at ProTools and the internet. I’ve started to get better and I think maybe there’s a future. If we can do that more efficiently, then we can make another album that way.”

Justin continues, “It’s different working that way. I’d rather he come over and spend some time with me and we sit in a room — real time.”

The clock continues to tick as we await Tool’s fifth full-length release. Stay tuned as updates continue to roll in.
