Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil recently spoke about how she gets inspiration for new material after writing and performing for nearly two decades and how she appreciates the “little things in life.”

Lacuna Coil just released their sixth studio album ‘Dark Adrenaline,’ which was their highest charting debut on the Billboard 200 to date. The band is currently touring North America as part of Gigantour — the Megadeth-led touring metal festival that, this year, also features Motorhead and Volbeat.

The Italian rock act, who formed 1994, have reached that point in their career where some acts find the creative well run dry. Before taking the stage, singer Cristina Scabbia explained to UpVenue how they continue to draw inspiration from life. “If you keep on living in an exciting way, and you keep on having experiences in life, I think you can be constantly inspired to write new stuff, so it’s not difficult at all for us,” said Scabbia. “We still love what we do, and nobody is forcing us to stay in this business.”

The band finishes Gigantour in early March and after a short break, will hit South America for a brief tour with Hatebreed and Lamb of God. “I can’t wait. The Latin American crowds are the best. They are insane.” said Scabbia of the upcoming dates. “I don’t think there is anything better for an artist to perform in front of a crazy crowd; a crowd that can jump, that can dance, that can sing with you even if they don’t know the lyrics, it doesn’t really matter, because even if the show is made by the band, it’s all about the crowd.”

Most would expect the vocalist for a gothic metal act to be more dark and despondent, but Scabbia lives by a surprisingly positive credo. “Never take things for granted; if you can get excited for the little things in life, it’s the best for your life. We only live once, we have to take the best out of it.”
