David and I really enjoyed the Freedom Festival Saturday night at Elmer Thomas Park. We attended the first, of what we hope to be annual, Freedom Festival event put on by the City of Lawton.

After dealing with a storm that blew through the park late afternoon the event organizers had some challenges to try and get the event back on track. It blew the top off the stage cover and reeked havoc on their sound system.

While they were working on the sound we enjoyed watching all the kids, dressed in their red, white and blue, running and playing in the park.

By 8:00 pm they were able to get the 77th Army Band - The Pride of Fort Sill up and running. We enjoyed a little over an hour of great music from them and then the fireworks started.

Thanks to everyone that worked so hard to put the celebration together. The committee and all the sponsors did an excellent job bringing this event to us for the first time.

I thought the crowd was pretty good but they most definitely need more food vendors, garbage cans and traffic control for next year!

The City of Lawton wants your feedback. Even if you didn’t attend, it will be helpful to the committee for future planning. The city would like for you to fill out a short 10-question survey whether they attended or not. It is anonymous. Here is a link to the survey:
