If you thought your tap water looked a little "funny" recently, you weren't alone. Residents of the southeast potion of Lawton have been experiencing yellow water coming from Lake Ellsworth, which was caused by a high concentration of manganese, according to city officials. Manganese is a naturally occurring mineral, but the unusually high concentration turned the water yellow.

City officials corrected the situation by switching the water supply from Lake Ellswoth to Waurika Lake. Officials originally attempted to switch the supply source when the saw manganese levels rising on July 5th, but were unable to make the change until Monday due to problems within the system.

Residents were in no health danger from the manganese levels, but it may have stained light colored clothing washed in the affected water. According to city officials, water is now coming from Waurika Lake and the color should return to normal by Tuesday evening.
