Gunman Opens Fire in Los Angeles Airport Terminal, Suspect In Custody, 7 Injured [UPDATE]
People in the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) were evacuated on Friday morning when gunshots were a shooting incident occurred where at least three people have been reported injured.According to the LA Times, Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) currently have a suspect in custody. The incident occurred at 9:20 a.m., Pacific Standard Time.
TSA Spokesman Nico Melendez has confirmed that one of the three people injured was a TSA employee. Melendez however, provided no further details on the severity of his condition.
Brian Adamick told the LA Times that he was getting ready to board a flight to Chicago when he saw people running away from a security area of the airport in the terminal.
“While I was on the tarmac, I heard two gunshots from the same area where the people had been running and screaming,” Adamick said.
Adamick stated he also saw an injured TSA employee get loaded on one the buses that was evacuating people from the airport. Adamick also said that the man had a bloody ankle and “it looked like it was straight out of the movies”
As of right now it is unknown if there are multiple suspects that are involved in the incident. All flights are currently grounded at this time at LAX and everyone has been evacuated from the airport.
Authorities state that the gunman had a high powered rifle.
An eyewitness who has gave his name as Alex told KTLA Channel 5 News that he only saw one shooter who was wielding a rifle in military style clothing.
“There was a guy downstairs who started shooting. One guy fell down. Panic erupted,” Alex said.
Other eye witnesses told KTLA that the shooter was shooting angrily while on the rampage. However, eye witnesses did not catch or understand what the shooter was saying as they were trying to escape.
An eyewitness who has identified herself at “Sidney” to KTLA that she heard 17 shots being fired.
Another witness who identified himself as Nick Pugh stated that he heard 8 to 10 shots and ran quickly when he heard gunshots being fired. Pugh stated that he got from Terminal 3 to Terminal 2 and since he got away so fast he was one of the first people police encountered and they immediately handcuffed him since he was running alone.
Pugh stated that he was not upset that police handcuffed him since he was alone and was the first person authorities encountered.

LA Times as confirmed with law enforcement that the TSA employee that was shot has been pronounced dead. The LA Times has also stated that the suspect was shot when apprehended and that they have died from their wounds.
UPDATE: Patrick Gannon LAX Police Chief: “At this point be believe this was a lone shooter.”
There are also unconfirmed reports that the shooter may have been a TSA employee.
In a recent press conference officials would not confirm that the suspect was killed in their confrontation with them. Authorities have stated that the suspect was taken down and that shots were fired. Interim Fire Chief James Featherstone stated that seven people were injured in the incident.
UPDATE: KTLA has confirmed reports that a person has succumbed to their wounds and has died, whether it is the gunman, the TSA employee or one of the other injured victims is unknown at this time.
