Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington Sings the Praises of Education

Linkin Park‘s Chester Bennington may be one of the top rockers in the business thanks to his time with the band, but the singer knows he’s lucky and admitted during a recent “Town Hall” meeting with fans that there is a part of his past he would change if he could.

He told the crowd, “The one thing I regret probably more than anything else in my life was dropping out of school to do things that I thought were more interesting at the time. The one thing that I really desire the most to this day, even though I’m really surrounded by a lot of educated guys that actually did go to school and did really well and I’m in a situation to learn from what they have to offer, is the one thing I don’t feel fulfilled in at this point in my life. Because of that, all I want to do is learn. All I want to do is learn about things and it doesn’t matter what it is, I feel like there’s a big hole in my experience in life because I chose to do the more irresponsible thing.”

The singer says he knows he hit the jackpot when he met up with his Linkin Park cohorts, and adds, “If I’d been in a band with just other guys that, for example the guys I had been in bands with before instead of these guys, I’d be working at a nightclub somewhere or doing something that I don’t like doing for not a lot of money and thinking about all the things I could have done, so staying in school is really, really super important.”

Bennington said during the Sirius/XM “Town Hall” event that he did go back and get his GED, but he adds, “It’s just a high school equivalency, and I want more. When the time is right, I would like to go just because it’s something I would like to accomplish in my life. I don’t know when that’s gonna be cause we’re like … I’m in an interesting situation doing what I love to do. I got fortunate. I always tell my kids, ‘Don’t do what your dad did, because I won the lottery. That’s not a good way to plan your future. Do what dad’s friends have done and think about what you’re doing and make it happen because of your talent and your intellect and not just on crossing your fingers and hoping to die.’”

Bennington is currently out with Linkin Park joining tourmates Incubus on the Honda Civic Tour.
