Local Licks @ Six: Deadweight

Deadweight with Critter in the studio

This week’s featured artist on Z94′s “Local Licks @ Six” is Deadweight! They stopped by the studios for an interview and introduction, being new to the Lawton, Ft. Sill music scene. Deadweight might be new but it’s members are familiar and come from various local bands like- Crosswire and Southern Comfort. The band has been together for the past several months working on writing and recording original material and brought with them a 3 song sampler of what they’re all about.  They haven’t performed live yet but look forward to bringing their unique style of classic rock, blues and R&B to audiences everywhere. The first opportunity we’ll have to see them perform live is at this year’s “Crawds N’ Rods” festival in Elgin, Oklahoma on Saturday, May 12th 2012 at 10:00am that morning.

MEET THE MEMBERS OF DEADWEIGHT:

Deadweight is: Seth Copeland VOCALS & KEYBOARDS / Bentley Smith LEAD GUITAR / Brandon Gibson BASS / Ryan McGowan LEAD GUITAR & VOCALS / Dustin Ray DRUMS

Deadweight have a real arena rock, big guitar sound with classic rock, blues and just a touch of the old Motown R&B feel to it. With a wide range of influences from several different genres they’ve managed to take the best of it all and mix it together for an incredible sound that’s new but familiar. It’s just good rock n’ roll that’s meant to be listened to at excessive decibels! When I first heard of the band I certainly wasn’t expecting to hear this rock anthem, big ass, thick type sound. The name Deadweight brought to mind something entirely different. Being brand new I didn’t know anything about them or what they sounded like. The band recorded the 3 song sampler that was featured on the show just days prior. I didn’t get to hear it until they came in and we did the interview, I was blown away! It was a privilege to introduce them to the Lawton, Ft. Sill local music scene and to the Loyal, Royal Z94 Army.
