With ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘ set to hit theaters in just under two months, director Marc Webb has been one rather busy gentleman. In addition to promoting the new film, Webb is also preparing to go back to work for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3,’ which will hit theaters in 2016 — but for fans hoping that the director will stick around for the fourth film, we’ve got some news: Webb will sadly not be returning to the director’s chair after Spidey’s third installment.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, Webb said that three ‘Spider-Man’ films will have to be his limit, but he’ll stick around to help out in some capacity:

I’d like to be involved as a consultant, and I’ve already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I’ve had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it’ll be the time to find something else.

The third film is already set for a June 10, 2016 release date, while the fourth film is slotted for May 4, 2018. In addition, Sony is developing spin-off films for villains Venom and the Sinister Six. Webb commented on the way the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ films are building toward those spin-offs:

We’re building out a more complicated Spider-Man universe with characters that people haven’t seen in other Spider-Man movies—The Sinister Six, Venom, and more. We’d all love to overlap with other studios, but it’s beyond my pay grade.

Well, we have seen Venom in a ‘Spider-Man’ film before, but maybe Marc Webb wiped that from his memory like the rest of us did.

At any rate, a fourth film is a long way off, and ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′ hits theaters on May 2.
