Mario Kart 8 Getting Mercedes-Benz DLC in Japan

It looks like Mario finally decided to spoil himself and get a luxury vehicle that wasn't a green dinosaur. How much of a trade-in value would you get on a Yoshi anyway?

According to Joystiq, Mario Kart 8 will be getting the Mercedes-Benz GLA as a piece of downloadable content later this summer. There are also rumors of a GLA tournament happening in the fall. This strange partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Nintendo has resulted in one of the sleekest karts to ever be grace the banana peel-filled streets of Mario Kart. While it doesn't trump Bowser's mini-airship, it's still amazing to see Mario finally getting a car appropriate to all those coins he has collected throughout the past 3 decades. The Mercedes-Benz DLC is likely to be free -- it's not like they would require you to buy an actual Benz in order to unlock it in the game, would they?

"The announcement this time was made by Mercedes-Benz Japan regarding their collaboration in Japan with Nintendo Co. Limited," a Nintendo representative told Joystiq. "As for the information relating to the distribution of the GLA kart for Mario Kart 8 outside Japan, we will be able to announce in the near future."

Until then, at least we'll have this ridiculous (and creepy) commercial to tide us over.
