Too often, we throw out the old and just buy new. While that's pretty ok for technology, it's not ok for tools. Get out there are do something.

All the same, I probably would have opted for a new hickory handle instead of patching the broken one back together. Although, it's quite brilliant to bound it with wire. To each their own I suppose.

BTW, if you don't have an axe, get one. Hit the antique stores and garage sales. Due to the modern idea of cheap alloys that have huge profit margins, they don't work at all. You want old axes and mauls. They don't chop wood... those old one cut wood. We're punching your man card if you pull one off the shelf at the home center.
