Megadeth have been in the studio working on the group's 16th album, which is the follow-up to 2016’s Dystopia. Frontman Dave Mustaine recently shared an update on the effort and how he is toning down the politics in his lyrics.

In an interview with Canada’s The Metal Voice, Mustaine shares that the group has a “huge head start on the record” adding that guitarist Kiko Loureiro and Dirk Verbeuren have been in the studio and that bassist David Ellefson will be visiting shortly to lay down some low end. Mustaine also opened up about he plans to tone down his political views in the lyrics this go around. “I think right now that the state of affairs in the world, it’s so horrible – it’s just so horrible. People are so mean to each other.” He adds, “So, I’ve toned it down a little bit with the political stuff to where it’s more about being a one-world kind of people, about the stuff that affects us as people, not so much as citizens of any government or nation. Why put an unnecessary wall up between us, right.”

Last month, Dave Mustaine took to Instagram to tease a new Megadeth song, showcasing a bit of Dirk Verbeuren's drumming. Megadeth will open for Ozzy Osbourne’s No More Tours 2 outing, which kicks off on May 31 in Sunrise, Fla.

The band will head out on their first ever Megacruise in October of 2019 along with Anthrax, Testament, Corrosion of Conformity and more. The maiden voyage will begin in Long Beach, Calif with ports of call in Catalina Island, San Diego and Mexico.
