Update: The Megadeth page with the Countdown Clock now features a music soundtrack to it. What we hear looping over and over on the page is a portion of Chris Adler's drumming and David Ellefson's bass locked in, presumably music from the band's upcoming album. Check it out for yourself here (wait a few seconds for it to kick in).

Update 2: It looks like we're going to get new parts in the lead up to the countdown's conclusion. Today (Sept. 29), you'll hear some rhythm guitar parts and a little bit of Chris Adler's drum fill after a few seconds of silence. It should also be noted that it's been heavily rumored that a song called "Fatal Illusion" will be released later this month.

Megadeth have teased some of the song titles and hinted that new music would be coming soon, but now it appears that you can put a timer on that. The band has launched an official countdown clock on their website, hopefully ticking down to either a new song or potentially the release of said album.

The countdown is set to run out on Friday, Oct. 2 at 1PM ET/10AM PT and it should be noted that Friday is now the universally accepted release date for new albums. However, given the early afternoon nature of the countdown, it's more likely that either a new song or an official announcement of details concerning the new disc is what we'll likely receive. All suggestions to this point have hinted at a late 2015 or early 2016 street date. Keep up with the countdown clock here.

In addition, the band has posted a brief trailer that shows a static piece of artwork. The shot looks like an abandoned bridge with a portion in the center collapsed. See the video above.

Megadeth principles Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson started working new music in late 2014. After the exits of guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover, the band eventually found replacements in Angra guitarist Kiko Loureiro and Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler. The band recorded the disc with Mustaine and Toby Wright handling production duties.

With Megadeth finished recording the album, they'll start building the buzz on tour. They've already played their first shows with the new lineup and will begin extended touring on Oct. 6 in Beijing, China. Dates in Japan, Australia, India, Russia, The U.K. and Mexico will keep them busy into early December. See their dates here.
