Hockey is the sports equivalent of extreme metal. Much like the pit at any metal show, the hockey rink is home to copious amounts of blood, brutal fights, broken teeth, shattered bones and all that good stuff. Metal Blade Records obviously shares that sentiment, as the label is teaming up with minor league ice hockey team the Trenton Titans, who are now the official hockey team of metal.

Although the death metal mecca is widely thought to be placed in lovely Tampa, Fla., and America's thrash capital resides in the sunny Bay Area of San Francisco, metal's official ice hockey team is based in Trenton, N.J. The partnership between Metal Blade Records and the Trenton Titans will result in a number of cross-promotions over the next few months.

Metal Blade Records celebrated their 30th anniversary of bringing the brutality to the masses in 2012, and have started off year No. 31 by teaming up with the Trenton Titans for the unique cross-promotion. Metal Blade founder Brian Slagel is an avid sports fan, even co-hosting the 'Metal Misconduct' podcast with NHL.com's Shawn Roarke. Merging the world of sports with metal music, Slagel and Roarke have welcomed guests such as Drew Safford (Buffalo Sabres), Josh Barnett (MMA), Kyle Turley (Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints) and many more.

The Trenton Titans are affiliated with the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers. For all updates on metal's official hockey team, follow the Trenton Titans on their Twitter and Facebook pages along with their official website. Also, check out Metal Blade Records' revamped website.
