Update: Metallica performed the National Anthem at the San Jose Sharks game against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night (June 6) as seen in the video above. The Sharks lost and now trail in the series one to three.

Metallica love their home teams, and guitarists James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett will be on hand to perform the National Anthem at tonight's (June 6) Game 4 of the NHL's Stanley Cup Finals. The game is taking place at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., as the hometown Sharks square off against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

"Another year and another Bay Area sports team playing in the championship round! Our congratulations to the San Jose Sharks for winning the Western Conference title and skating in the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in their 25-year franchise history," states the band's website. "In keeping with our tradition of supporting all our hometown teams, James and Kirk will hit the ice to perform the National Anthem at Game 4 today, Monday, June 6 at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif."

Both guitars will be signed by all four band members after the performance and fans can bid upon the instruments through NHL Auctions. The auction will run until June 15, with proceeds aiding the Sharks Foundation and Little Kids Rock charitable organizations.

For those not able to make it to San Jose, the Stanley Cup finals will air at 8PM ET/5PM PT on NBC.

And while Metallica are celebrating the hometown Sharks, they also have some supportive words concerning the Golden State Warriors, who are also going for a title in the NBA finals. "We would be remiss if we didn’t also congratulate the Golden State Warriors, who are also Western Conference champs, and are currently facing the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. We had the honor of performing at one of last year’s games and support them all the way as they pursue their second championship in a row. Go Dubs!," state the band.
