There's no shortage of odd and interesting covers and mashups of Metallica songs out there. Recently, thrash classics from the Bay Area legends have undergone a synthwave makeover, been played using hand farts and even crossed wires with the "Macarena" and now YouTuber Pete Cottrell adds to the curious mix by covering "One" using just one guitar string in the vide above.

Cottrell accepted the challenge which was issued by two commenters and delivers with an impressive performance that in no way sounds compromised by his lone string limitations. It isn't a single take cover as he lays down the rhythm and lead parts and even handles the fast fretwork of Kirk Hammett's solo with shocking efficiency.

"One" is a historic Metallica track in many ways. In the band's early days, they had been steadfast about not releasing music videos, but this mentality broke down and a video was shot for the war-torn power ballad. Metallica also earned a Grammy for Best Metal Performance at the 32nd Annual Grammy Awards for the song, notching the first win in the inaugural category.

Metallica will resume touring in support of 2016's Hardwired... To Self-Destruct with the second North American leg of the "WorldWired" trek whirring back up in September with dates booked through March of next year. Head here to see a list of stops.
