To say British singer-songwriter Mike Marlin is a wearer of many hats is something of an understatement. He was a student of physics at Oxford, and after dropping out in his final year, he worked as a successful computer programmer. Marlin changed paths once more in 2009 to pursue music. It was then that he sat down and recorded his debut album, ‘Nearly Man.’

Now, on his third album, ‘Grand Reveal,’ Marlin continues to reinvent himself, but this time, it’s his music that's evolving. It’s what you might expect if someone were to put Edgar Allan Poe’s ‘The Tell-Tale Heart’ to music. You’re not quite sure what’s coming next, but you’re certainly waiting in anticipation for the ‘Grand Reveal.’

The suspense and mystery are only made possible by Marlin’s dynamism as a musician. He has the baritone of a Matt Berninger, the theatricality of a David Bowie and the darkness of a Nick Cave — all of whom Marlin cites as influences.

Today’s free MP3, ‘Building a Bridge,’ however, is one of the lighter moments of ‘Grand Reveal.’

“I must have been in a good mood on the day I recorded as a duet with the amazing Bex Reichwald,” Marlin told Diffuser.fm. “Look out for the Wurlitzer solo and an unusual outing for me on eBow.”
