Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister Talks Health, Smoking, Drinking + Death

Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister has experienced a menagerie of health problems this year, but in a new and very comprehensive interview, Lemmy says that he’s been “feeling better.” In fact, the somewhat soft-spoken frontman sounded off with aggressive detail about others trying to control his actions, living a life without regrets and much more.

In June of this year, Lemmy had an implantable defibrillator put into his chest shortly before suffering from a hematoma. Lemmy, who used to smoke like a chimney and drink a bottle of Jack Daniel’s every day, hasn’t lived the healthiest life, but the rock icon has just professed his well-being. In what is sure to be a fascinating one-on-one, Classic Rock Magazine spoke with Lemmy Kilmister, and the Motorhead idol had a lot to say.

“I don’t mind you asking about my health,” Lemmy tells Classic Rock Magazine. “I’ve been poorly. There’s no point lying about it or trying to deny it. I’ve never done that. It’s all part of life’s rich tapestry, isn’t it? I understand you’ve got to ask. And I’m feeling better.”

On the subject on Kilmister’s heavy smoking and drinking habits, Lemmy swatted away health concerns concerning those two vices. “It was the same when people were telling me to stop smoking,” Lemmy says. “‘You’ve got to stop smoking, Lem,’ they kept saying. F— you. I don’t like people telling me what to do, even if they might be right. I was having breakfast one morning, coughing and hacking my way through a cigarette and I stopped and thought, ‘What am I doing here?’ I stopped drinking Jack Daniel’s and Coke because the sugar in the Coke wasn’t good for my diabetes. I don’t drink much [anymore].”

Lemmy also shared his outlook on death with the magazine. “I’m ready for it. When I go, I want to go doing what I do best. If I died tomorrow, I couldn’t complain. It’s been good.” [via Blabbermouth]
