Anyone watching the first season of Netflix’s Narcos had to wonder how far Season 1 would get into the story of Pablo Escobar without brushing up against his inevitable end, and it looks like Season 2 isn’t backing away from that date with destiny. Not only does the new season have a 2016 premiere, but our first teaser promises that Escobar has an expiration date.

You’re warned of (historical) spoilers from here on out, but of the three dates teased in Narcos Season 2's first teaser, more than the September 2 premiere might catch your eye. There’s also 12.01.49, the date of Escobar (Wagner Moura)’s birth, and 12.02.93, the date of his … well, you get the idea. Happy birthday!

Having lost showrunner Adam Fierro, with writer-producers José Padilha and Eric Newman keeping on as EPs, so reads the series’ synopsis:

Narcos chronicles the gripping real-life stories of the drug kingpins of the late 1980s and the corroborative efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict. It details the conflicting forces - legal, political, police, military and civilian - that clash in an effort to control the world’s most powerful commodity: cocaine.

The series re-partners creator and executive producer José Padilha with Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar, alongside alongside Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl) and Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as real-life DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Peña.

All 10 episodes of Narcos Season 2 will premiere on September 2, so stay tuned for the latest.
