Nick Oliveri To Appear On New Queens of the Stone Age Album

Former Queens of the Stone Age bassist Nick Oliveri has recorded vocals for a song that's set to appear on the band's next album, a post on his own band Mondo Generator's website reveals. Oliveri, who previously played with QOTSA from 1998 to 2004, also has rejoined Kyuss, the band he formed with Queens frontman Josh Homme in the late '80s.

The post reads:

NEWS: Nick has re-joined Kyuss, and has recently recorded his vocals on a new Queens of the Stone Age song!" reads the post. "Stay tuned.”

The news is somewhat surprising, given that Oliveri was fired from Queens under acrimonious circumstances in 2004 and later turned down an offer to rejoin Kyuss, who now perform under the name Kyuss Lives! Kyuss disbanded in 1995, and when singer John Garcia and drummer Brant Bjork reformed the group in 2010, Homme refused to take part. He even went so far as to file a lawsuit against the two over their use of the Kyuss name. In August, the United States District Court Central District of California ruled Garcia and Bjork could perform, but not record, under the name Kyuss Lives!

It's a complicated situation, and the fact that Oliveri has seemingly patched things up with Homme around the same time as he has rejoined the Kyuss fold is definitely odd. Perhaps the fact that Dave Grohl and Trent Reznor are also on the disc's star-studded guest list will help distract from any awkwardness in the recording studio.
